Reflexology

Reflexology is a complementary therapy based on the belief that there are reflex areas in the feet and hands which are believed to correspond to all organs and parts of the body.
Reflexology works on an individual basis and may alleviate and improve symptoms such as everyday stress and tension.
Reflexologist are there to support you as a whole person and promote your wellbeing. Therefore, Reflexologist do not diagnose, prescribe or cure.

Reflexology can be used to help encourage the body to work naturally and restore its own healthy balance. Reflexology may help a whole range of conditions:

*Breathing disorders

*Hormonal imbalances

*Fertility issues

*Joint pain

*Stress related sleep disorders

*Skin problems

*Stress related digestive disorders

*Stress and anxiety related conditions

Reflexology also helps with relaxation, enhances mood, aids sleep, relieves tension and improves wellbeing.

The benefits of Reflexology are individual and many people use Reflexology as a way of relaxing the mind and body and counteracting stress.

On the first visit a consultation will take place to determine your present and past health and lifestyle. A reflexology session consists of working the feet or the hands and usually lasts about an hour with additional time for consultation.

After your Reflexology session most people feel a sense of wellbeing and relaxation. Sometimes people report feeling lethargic, but this is temporary and is part of the healing process. Please inform me should this sensation occur, as this will indicate how well your body is responding to treatment.

Many clients have reported that Reflexology has had a positive effect on both their physical and mental health, with many continuing to have a regular Reflexology session, after their initial health issue has been resolved.

Reflexology should not be used as an alternative to seeing your Doctor or taking medical advice. It is a complementary therapy and can be used alongside other medical treatments.

Vertical Reflexology

Vertical reflexology techniques (VRT) is performed on top of the feet whilst standing. It provides deeper access to reflex points and enhances professional reflexology. Synergistic work can also be included where the hands and feet are worked together to turn the power up.

Reflexology Lymph Drainage (RLD)

I am a RLD approved practitioner in Sally Kay's award winning lymph drainage technique.

RLD is a technique which focuses on stimulating the lymphatic reflexes on the feet. It is a unique sequence that has been researched and developed by Sally Kay BSc (Hons) whilst working in Cancer Care. Sally was awarded the FHT Excellence in Practice Award 2012 for research and development into Reflexology Lymph Drainage. In addition she was awarded funding by a Welsh cancer charity Tenovus for further research into RLD in partnership with Cardiff Metropolitan University. The summary of data from this research found that all 26 participants had reductions in swelling of the affected arm. For further details about this amazing study please visit Sally Kay's website Reflexology Lymph Drainage

As the lymphatic reflexes are stimulated in the feet, the aim is to cause an effect within the lymphatic system in the body. Swelling should reduce within the affected area. Studies have shown that with repeated treatments of Reflexology Lymph Drainage the fluid build up doesn't return to the maximum level experienced by the client.

Rld May help conditions other than lymphoedema, and RLD may be used similarly.
MLD may be useful with the following conditions
* Arthritis
* Asthma
* Eczema
* Chronic fatigue
* Fibromyalgia
* ME
* Sinus problems
* Migraines
* Headaches
* Muscular tension
* Aches and pains
* Premenstrual Syndrome

RLD
Before proceeding with the reflexology treatment on the feet, the volume of both arms can be measured and recorded and a short questionnaire completed. The reflexology treatment can be carried out using a problem specific sequence on both feet while the client relaxes. On completition of the reflexology both arms will again be measured and recorded so that before and after volumes can be compared. This protocol is repeated for each subsequent reflexology treatment so that an ongoing record is kept. Photos of the affected arm may also be taken with the client's permission to help maintain a visual record as well.
Because of the measurement protocol alongside the normal consultation process and the treatment time of 45 minutes, clients should initially allow 1 hour 15 mins for their appointments.
